The Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission gave approval to Al Jazeera English to broadcast in Canada. The commition claimed that the Al Jazeera English will contribute to the Canadian broadcasting system by adding new perspectives and editorial points.

Winnipeg city council approved, at a special meeting this afternoon, the sale of the Winnipeg Square Parkade. The so-called " gold mine at Portage and Main" was sold to Toronto's Crown Realty Partners for $24million. [...]proponents of the sale argued that the operation of such a profitable asset by the private sector will serve the cause of downtown revitalization. Cash from its sale could be spent on eliminating the Winnipeg Parking Authority's debt (which was built up over the years through transfers to general city revenue), fixing the Millennium Library and Civic Centre parkades or building new facilities, Mayor Sam Katz and other sale proponents said.

British Columbia’s provincial government has approved disaster financial assistance to the more than 300 Vancouver Island families forced from their homes due to flooding yesterday. Two Vancouver Island communities, Duncan and North Cowichan, declared a state of emergency as water levels rose due to rain and high tides.
