Ottawa holds back climate rules pending global deal

Canada’s Environment Minister Jim Prentice announced today that the release of Canada’s new environmental policy will be delayed for up to one year, pending the finalization of climate regulations on behalf of the United States. Ottawa is waiting for the U.S. to finalize their climate legislations before releasing their own to ensure a continental approach to environmental policies, Prentice said. This delay comes after months of criticism towards Canada for its apparent lack of commitment towards the 1997 Kyoto Protocol.
